Is an Electric Pallet Truck Classified as Special Equipment?

Nov 19, 2025

Whether an electric pallet truck is classified as special equipment depends on relevant standards and regulations. According to the national standard "Classification and Grading of Special Equipment" (GB/T 4754-2017), electric pallet trucks are not classified as special equipment because they do not fall under the categories of pressure vessels, mechanical equipment, lifting machinery, or passenger ropeways. Other standards, such as "Safety Technical Specifications" (GB/T 2900.36-2018) and "Safety Technical Supervision Rules for Lifting Machinery" (GB/T 6048-2019), also do not include electric pallet trucks in the category of special equipment.

However, this does not mean that the safe use of electric pallet trucks is unimportant. Regardless of whether an electric pallet truck is classified as special equipment, users must strictly adhere to its operating procedures and pay attention to safety precautions. For example, before use, the vehicle body and wheels should be inspected to ensure normal working condition; loading should strictly adhere to load standards and overloading should be avoided; during maintenance, the power should be disconnected and specialized tools and equipment should be used; operators must receive professional training and pass assessments, etc.
